After the rapid growth of the global electronics industry had begun gradually increasing demand for electronic-grade glass fabric – a major raw material in printed circuit boards – the Taiwan Glass Group established its Lugang plant in the Lugang area of the Changpin Industrial Park. This plant contains integrated glass fiber yarn and glass fabric production lines, which began operating starting in 1998. The plant occupies an area of 26 ha. The glass fabric plant building has an area of 12.9 ha, currently contains seven production lines, and has a total annual output of 42,000 tons.

Because there is a cluster of plate class processing companies in the Lugang area, in order to meet the market's huge and growing demand for raw materials, and also strengthen service of glass processing-related industries, the Taiwan Glass Group decided to establish a float glass production line in the Lugang plant. The kiln has a design production capacity of 600 tons per day and approximately 200,000 tons per year. This kiln has the largest capacity of any of Taiwan Glass's four existing float glass production lines. Float glass produced at the Lugang plate glass plant has received ISO 9001 quality certification from the Bureau of Standards, Metrology, and Inspection, MOEA, and products have received CNS Mark certification, making this a CNS Mark manufacturing plant.

Apart from producing the 7628, 2116, and 1080 specifications widely used by the circuit board industry, the Lugang plant is also actively engaged in the development of other types of glass fabric meeting the market's increasingly diverse needs, including thin fabric, special fabric types, and laser-drilled fabric. Products not only provide circuit boards with needed strength, but offer excellent size stability and electrical performance. As a result, the glass fabric produced at the Lugang plant has found favor with many high-tech manufacturers.

The secret to the Lugang plant's consistently high product quality has always been its constant development and acquisition of world-class manufacturing technology, and adoption of many types of scientific production management systems. The plant upholds a quality policy of "using advanced technology and company-wide quality control to provide products satisfying customer needs," and maintains strict quality levels throughout the raw material acceptance, process management, and exit inspection stages. The plant passed ISO 9001 certification administered the Bureau of Standards, Metrology, and Inspection, MOEA in 2002, and has won plaudits for its consistently high product quality.

Responding to global environmental protection and green energy trends, the Lugang plant has begun working hard to protect the Earth. In order to fulfill its social responsibilities, the plant installed a complete set of pollution control equipment at the time of its establishment, and has implemented a high-effective environmental management system (wastewater and waste gas emissions must meet strict environmental protection standards). The plant received ISO 14001 certification from the Swiss certification firm SGS in 2002. The plant has recently established an environmental management material control system; products not only meet the EU's RoHS requirements, but also represent an ideal green process choice for global customers.

In the future, Taiwan Glass's Lugang plant will continue to take advantage of its innovative spirit, seek out partners for collaborative undertakings, and offer many types of customized products and services meeting customers' needs. Responding to the coming aesthetic society, the plant will rely on its commitment to perfection as it provides even more exquisite quality, more humanistic product designs, and increasingly competitive products.
